Dublin’s DIY rock duo SWELTR have released flavourful new track, ‘Noodles’, dropping on this Halloween. Inspired by one disastrously spicy culinary escapade, the single dishes up chaos, intensity, and a dash of regret, both literal and metaphorical. After a quick meal of extremely spicy noodles, tongues turned numb, heads swollen with heat, a heat they did not expect. Sweating and slightly delirious, Tony (Keyes, guitar and vocals) grabbed his guitar as a distraction, while Noel (Dempsey, drums) jumped in on drums. What started as a distraction quickly transformed into a full song, capturing the heat, the panic, and the exhilaration of the moment.
The song may appear to be all about noodles, but like any meal, there is an aftertaste. Lines such as: “Got a taste of your medicine, it’s burning its way through my head again” suggest lingering regret, anxiety, or perhaps a past love, cleverly hidden beneath the spice. The chorus, simply states “Noodles!”, serving as a cathartic exclamation, a goofy and relatable cry for anyone who has ever bitten off more than they can chew. The track begins with a snappy guitar-and-drum rhythm before escalating into full-throttle rock chaos. Distorted guitars, swelling cymbals, and relentless energy. By the final chorus, the song is loud, aggressive, and impossible to ignore, just like the inspiration behind it.
Recorded in Oblivion Studios by Tony and Noel, the track was mixed by Tony and mastered by Ivan Jackman. The single artwork was created by Noel, keeping it true to SWELTR’s hands-on, DIY roots. ‘Noodles’ is accompanied by a DIY music video, filmed in Oblivion Studios on Noel’s phone and edited by himself. It captures the energy, humour and spicyness of the song in true SWELTR fashion. ‘Noodles’ is SWELTR’s ode to chaos, intensity, and the small regrets that make life spicy. It is a track with a downplayed seriousness but ferocious all the way, offering a tongue-in-cheek reminder that sometimes you just have to endure the heat.
Tony shares the following on the new single:
“Some songs come from heartbreak, others from spicy noodles. ‘Noodles’ is both.”
