Irish punks Slightly Dishevelled have released the third track from their debut album Dirty Dishes and the West Wing. ‘lament’ shows the descent of one into madness. The theatrical undercurrent is produced with screechy violins and odd time signatures. The vocal performances by each individual band member bring the swirling dement levels to the roof. This captures all the qualities that slightly dishevelled hold dear. This bouncing madness takes the listener on a dissonant yet cathartic journey through the depths of despair.
Slightly Dishevelled is a 5-piece noise ensemble, living scattered across Ireland. Their music is a combination of influences, ranging from 70s punk to psychedelia, from improvisation to noise music. After playing many gigs around Ireland, the songs became morphed and mangled, and the group were insistent on capturing the abstraction in their own “dishevelled” way. Their non- compromising attitude led them to an Achill Island studio in 2023 and resulted in their debut album Dirty Dishes and the West Wing set for release on 21 February.
Recent endeavours led the group to act and star in short film “Gan Ainm(35mm)” by Dublin artist Roisin Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh which is being shown in private screenings around Dublin until 2025. In 2023 they scored “Molasses pt. ii”, a film piece by Cork artist Saoirse McGarry. The completely improvised piece was recorded in one 20-minute take in the Achill Island Studio. The film piece was nominated for the RDS visual arts prize and could be experienced in an exhibition in IMMA in March ’24.
