Brighton’s Shady Baby release new single ‘Under Duress’. Now a quartet, ‘Under Duress’ sees the band drift into grittier, more shadowy realms, crunching through its brooding slow-cooked verses, before plunging into a chorus of bittersweet, widescreen euphoria. Recorded with Alex Gordon (The Cure, Sea Power, Tigercub), ‘Under Duress’ marks a new era for a band growing out of their wilder, adolescent beginnings,  and who are now morphing their sound towards a muscular, and more matured brand of grunge-ridden indie-rock that harks back to the genre’s 90s stateside trailblazers. On the single, vocals and guitarist Sam Leaver elusively states: “It’s about how your state of mind can take hold of who you are, and trying to shake off a version of yourself you didn’t mean to become.”

Their first release of 2025 comes off the back of debut stateside shows at New Colossus festival back in the spring, a main stage spot at last summer’s Y Not festival, plus notable supports for the likes of Been Stellar, Malice K, Personal Trainer, Milo Korbenski and Priestgate. With a stream of singles now under their belt (including a debut 7” on the lauded Nice Swan label), the band are working on a debut EP, set for release next year.
