Dara Dubh has released a harp-led, folk-funk single from her upcoming debut album Go Like Crazy Big Moon. Backed by funding from Creative Scotland, Dubh’s debut album boldly reimagines the harp and bardic lyricism, pushing both into striking new territory. It will be released later in the year. Emerging with a bold and genre-blurring first single, ‘Push/Pull (not falling for you)’ offers listeners an electrifying introduction to a project that pushes the boundaries of alternative folk music. An unexpected fusion of textures; gospel-style backing vocals from some of Edinburghs best singers, layered with classic 90’s hip-hop string arrangements, led by Dubh’s unmistakable harp playing and authentic Irish vocals the song builds a dynamic sonic landscape offering the listener just a glimpse into the broader world of this latest project.
‘Push/Pull (not falling for you)’ is a reflection of bygone relationships, where poor treatment was tolerated. This song is a “not any more” response; an acceptance to never accept half measured excuses and behaviour again.
To celebrate the release, an exclusive album preview gig will take place on 5 June, at Pianodrome, Brunstfield, Edinburgh where Dubh will also be debuting her handmade Celtic fairy tree staging, made using all up-cycled materials built from the Pianodrome workshop. This one-off show, intimate show will give audiences an early opportunity to experience the music live and in its full, immersive form.
