Scottish garage-punks Casual Drag release furious new single ‘The Master’. The explosive trio’s latest offering showcases the band’s distinctive and powerful raw sound, twisted riffs and snarling vocals set to the backbeat of driving bass and pounding drums. On the inspiration behind the song, singer Richard Clarke said:
“This song is about not letting the impact of trauma rule your life and limit you – It’s about taking control of your path, while in the mire of misery, and becoming the master of your own destiny. Lyrically the song is someone having a conversation with their former self – reflecting on the past in order to understand the future and move on. The world we see around us is a pretty grim place at the minute, and the oppressive reality we are living in really inspired the fury of the song!”
Having previously recorded all material at Green Door studio in Glasgow, the band relocated to Pocket Sound studio in Edinburgh with Ed Meltzer (Puppy Teeth, Dinosaur 94) for a fresh sound and approach. The song is the first single to be released from an upcoming album set for release in 2026. Casual Drag mark the release with a run of Scottish shows, including opening for legendary Japanese post-hardcore/shoegaze trio Mass of the Fermenting Dregs at La Belle Angele.
Formed over the dreary office printer at work by Richard and bassist Dominic after discovering a mutual love for the Amazing Snakeheads and IDLES, the band’s reputation for frenetic live shows has earned them gigs with Joe Talbot of IDLES, Flatworms, Frankie & the Witch Fingers, Lice and Hotel Lux. Their debut EP released in 2023 garnered praise and airplay from BBC Introducing, Tom Robinson of Fresh on the Net/BBC6 Music, Amazing Radio, the Scottish Herald, God Is In the TV and Mystic Sons.
