London post-punks Alien Chicks sign to Alcopop! Records (Art Brut, Ditz, The Wytches) and announce their Toys Taken At Birth EP set for release 2 October alongside release of lead single ‘5/4’.
Marking their first new material of 2026, ‘5/4’ channels the monotony of lockdown isolation, and the double life of working as full time school teachers just to keep making music (as two members of Alien Chicks do!). Building from unease into controlled chaos and the subsequent breakdown, a hallucination of a teddy bear’s picnic where life is harmonious and simple, the track snaps back with a brief clarity, turning frustration into catharsis, and restraint into a barely contained urge to tear it all down. Armed with a collection of diverse influences and a fearless approach to their genre, Alien Chicks continue to push boundaries and define expectations, whilst critical acclaim continues to gather momentum in the process.
Primed to head out on a UK in-store run and European tour this autumn to coincide with their EP release, the band are ready to build on their thrilling live reputation, having already supported esteemed contemporaries such as English Teacher, Lambrini Girls, Sprints, Maruja and Big Special.
Speaking ahead of their single release, the trio explained:
“‘5/4’ is a staple of our live sets and mosh pits, and was written about the pressure of surviving under a system that leaves little room to live. It traces the slow fracture of a 9-to-5, where creativity is squeezed into whatever time capitalism doesn’t take. The shifting time signature – grounded in 5 but slipping into 6 – mirrors that instability, a constant sense of imbalance.”
