New York’s Been Stellar had quite a weekend in London. From one of Fontaines D.C.’s support bands on Saturday in Finsbury Park (capacity 45,000) to, just 24 hours later, The Elephant’s Head in Camden (capacity 60).

The latter was a free show put on by So Young Records, and for those lucky enough to be aware of the gig, and to arrive early enough to get in, it was a night to remember.

Such was the buzz for this gig the queue outside was long and support band Hank entertained while the crowd patiently waited for Been Stellar. By the time they took to the small stage in the corner surrounded by windows, people were peering inside. However The Elephant’s Head obviously had outside speakers for those disappointed to not get in.

This was a long set with plenty of tracks from the debut album Scream from New York, NY released last year and produced by Dan Carey who also produced Fontaines D.C.’s first three albums. There were also older tracks including ‘Ohm’ and ‘Kids 1995’ plus new singles ‘Breakaway’ and ‘Adored’.

It was entirely fitting that diehard fans were in The Elephant’s Head, singing their hearts out to every track, and the band were obviously thrilled with the response. Lead singer Sam Slocum thanked Sam (Ford) and Josh (Whettingsteel) creators of So Young Records for putting on the show. Every single person who attended, both inside and outside the venue, would also like to thank the label for following up the spectacle of Finsbury Park with this intimate set in Camden. A night to remember indeed.

Been Stellar have announced further headline dates in the UK in August including Glasgow (The Art School, 19 August) and London (The Dome, 21 August) before they play Reading and Leeds Festival.
