The Decibel Decoder is delighted to be hosting a stage at The Official Unofficial in Rotterdam as part of Left of the Dial.
Friday 23 October 12noon – 3.45pm will see the venue V11, a moored boat, shake to bands from Scotland alongside our friends from across the North Sea in Norway.
To learn more about each band, here is a brief introduction. Edinburgh based Bikini Body are your favourite DJ’s favourite punk band. They’ve released two records with Optimo Music, whose support helped shape their current trajectory and a sound that’s dancier than punk and punkier than dance. Drawing on no-wave and dance-punk touchstones like ESG and Liquid Liquid, alongside contemporaries such as Viagra Boys and Squid, Bikini Body fuse wiry, percussive grooves with a confrontational vocal delivery indebted to The Slits, Bush Tetras and X-Ray Spex.
Recent activity includes a 13-date UK co-headline tour with a sold-out London show, a packed-out headline set at The Windmill Brixton, and festival appearances at Manchester Psych Fest, Hidden Door and Watching Trees. The band also made their European debut this year at BritUnder festival in Barcelona.
Bikini Body have just completed 10 new tracks at PRAH Studios in Margate and released new single, ‘Leipzig’ last month. Inspired by a sighting of a cargo flight over a favourite Edinburgh pub garden, frontwoman Vicky Kavanagh decided to examine her fear of flying, technological advancement and climate change. In typical Bikini Body style, even contemplating the end of the world turns into a party and the result is 100% dance punk goodness. Ben Katzman (Mannequin Pussy, Guerilla Toss, Colleen Green) joins for a face-melting guitar solo that’s bound to get folk buzzing for their upcoming joint UK tour.
