Galway-based post-punk outfit In Athens return with an unabashed celebration of the early-00s indie dancefloor, ‘Voltage Party’. It follows previous single ‘Dead Reckoning’, named Track of the Week by 2FM’s Dan Hegarty and described by IMRO as “evoking the image of a body of water at its most threatening”
Think the Yeah Yeah Yeahs meets Queens of the Stone Age, the band share the following on the new single:
“We wanted to push ourselves sideways with this one, to write something made for a packed dance floor in a small, sweaty venue. It’s a song we can really let loose on live, too. We couldn’t imagine anyone but Dan Doherty producing it. He’s a master at capturing a sense of electricity in the studio.”
‘Voltage Party’ is an ode to the things that fire up the nervous systems. The band push the tempo harder than before, with wiry guitars, a grimy and motorik rhythm section and a call-and-response chorus that’s built to be shouted back.
The track is released via Blowtorch Records. A physical release (7″ translucent red vinyl) alongside the bands recent single ‘Dead Reckoning’ is sold out due to high pre sale demand
