For the next single off their second album Bingo!, set for release via Bella Union and Mothland on 12 June, La Sécurité dial up the BPMs with ‘Snack City’. For this kooky jam about primal, glutinous needs, the Montréal collective have orchestrated a fidgety punk & roller sustained by fast-paced vocals, a careening rhythm section, and copious countermelodies, courtesy of delish guitar and synthesizer accompaniments. Disclaimer: The song may trigger the munchies; being fully stocked with your favourite snacks before pressing play is highly advised.

The band share the following on the new single:
We wrote the song when we were hungry. The segment “J’ai faim, j’ai faim, […]”, which translates to: “I’m hungry, I’m hungry, […]” was the basis of the scat singing that remained. We had fun with food anecdotes, food-related puns, etcetera.

Philippe Beauséjour expands on the video:
“The band wanted a music video with images taken from their cellphones, including photos and videos from their tours. I found the challenge very fun, considering that the most interesting content was already done. So, I created a universe inspired by scrapbooking, using what I could find in my multiple 60s and 90s cookbooks. I still wanted to bring a touch of animation, by constructing Éliane’s face several times with food. A little inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Summer.

With second album Bingo!, La Sécurité have crafted yet another genuine and inspired collection of beautiful curiosities. Following up on their critically-acclaimed debut Stay Safe!, the five-piece further implement polyrhythms, counter-intuitive chord changes, as well as subtle melodic and harmonic dissonance. The resulting forays into subversive pop are catchy and dancey, while also challenging the listener via eclectic, often edgy arrangements. The album sees the Montréal/Tiohtià:ke collective introduce even more elements from no wave, noise rock, and shoegaze to their signature alloy of bilingual “spring-loaded post-punk” (Post-Trash), all the while “channeling art punk and new wave into something jittery, confrontational, and irresistibly kinetic.” (Range)

While writing the album, the group, Éliane Viens (vocals, synthesizers, percussion, drums), Félix Bélisle (bass, synthesizers, percussion, piano, production), Kenny Smith (drums, guitar), Laurence Anne Charest-Gagné (guitar, percussion, vocals), and Melissa Di Menna (guitar, synthesizers, vocals, percussion, artworks), indulged in jazz-tinged musical envolées, improvising many of the hooks to be found on the record. Songs were then carefully encapsulated by engineer Renny Wilson (Nap Eyes, Mitch Davis, Faith Healer), using rare ribbon microphones and vintage compressors with the band playing live off-the-floor before being mixed by co-producers Bélisle and Emmanuel Éthier (Corridor, Population II, Chocolat) and mastered by Robin Schmidt (Pixies, The Hives, Viagra Boys).

In turn, Bingo! aptly harnesses La Sécurité’s natural sound, which fuses calculated musical chaos and uncanny musicality in dealing a powerful and distinct barrage of decibels.
