Affection To Rent have today shared their new single ‘Cathedral’. It’s a heavy, shoegaze-inspired grunge track that captures a band on the rise. It’s swirling, atmospheric and full of emotion. Singer Abbey talks through the song:
“The song was sparked by hearing a choir sing from a cathedral in Dublin as I passed in the empty early hours one winter night. We wanted to capture a feeling of being lost in something much larger than yourself, with lyrics to describe the human capacity for vast emotions as the echoing scale of a cathedral interior. It holds all I felt at the time: a curiosity about fate, fear, and passion.”
The band are led by Abbey Addenbroke-Sheriff. A thrilling presence, she was handpicked by Fontaines D.C. for their scholarship programme in Dublin, with guitarist Carlos O’Connell telling NME: “She’s brilliant, it’s exciting to hear such raw talent.”
Affection to Rent’s brand of grunge fuses dark winding vocal melodies with a warm wash of nostalgia, unveiled in their debut single ‘If We Fall’. From raw and contagious to ethereal and personal, the five-piece’s live sets exude a cathartic desperation which secured them a place on the longlist for the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition ’24. Described as ‘a breath of fresh air’ by Under the Radar Magazine, Affection to Rent have since played at Ireland Music Week, All Together Now, The Great Escape, and 2000 Trees Festival, as well as supporting the likes of Gurriers, Feeble Little Horse, Snõõper, and Friko.
Affection to Rent next play their debut headline show in Whelan’s Upstairs, Dublin on 15 November.
