Irish alt-gaze outfit In Athens share new single ‘Tides‘ from their upcoming debut EP MIRRORISM which will be released on 12” Vinyl via Blowtorch Records 24 October. ‘Tides’ blends the emotional immediacy and charisma of indie noise rock with the darker, moodier experimental textures of shoegaze and post-punk. Lyrically rooted in the push and pull of emotional misalignment, ‘Tides‘ paints a vivid portrait of relationships out of sync: someone reaching out against another pulling away. Built on a hypnotic foundation, ‘Tides‘ draws from both the raw intensity of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the shadowy vulnerability of Just Mustard, swelling and receding like the sea itself — all tension, no resolution.
Hailing from the rugged meeting point of Galway, Connemara and the Wild Atlantic, In Athens music boasts a powerful blend of fuzzy post-gaze nostalgia and razor-sharp post-punk energy. This creates an evocative soundscape that reflects the majestic beauty, raw power and shimmering tranquillity of their surroundings. The band shares:
“There’s nostalgia in what we do, for sure – 90s alternative tones, a bit of shoegaze sprinkled here and there – but it’s not about looking back. We’re interested in contrast. Warmth and detachment. Collapse and control. We like when things feel familiar yet slightly off, in the same way that a vivid, lucid dream can sometimes feel”
Recorded and produced at Darklands Audio Recording Studio by Dan Doherty (Fontaines DC, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Hope Sandoval), In Athens will also announce Irish tour dates in support of the EP’s release.
