Dublin post-funk quartet SCUSTIN have released their new single ‘Drinking Cans In A Field With Matt Damon’, the final track to be taken from their debut album Confessions of a Pub Talker set for release on 19 September. The band have also announced their album launch show at Phoenix Bar, Dalymount Park (home of Bohemian FC) on 20 September 2025.

Based, incredibly, on a remarkable real life adventure, Scustin recount their mischievous brush with Hollywood’s golden boy, the night they shared cans in a field with none other than Matt Damon. Satisfying their sultry appetite for post-funk satire, the band deliver a riotous romp through real-life absurdity. Infectious grooves, chant-along choruses, and off-the-wall storytelling are the backbone of this raucous track.

Commenting on the single, front man Joe Hearns says:
“It’s a wild fusion of funk and folklore, a pandemic fever dream scored by Dublin wit and dirty basslines. Think Shane MacGowan fronting Funkadelic.”

The single is the final track to be taken from their debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker which will be released on 19 September 2025, following on from a string of single releases including ‘Charmer’, ‘The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)’, ‘I’m Never Flying With Ryanair Again’, and ‘Our Regards’. Recorded and produced by Richie Kennedy (The Murder Capital, RIDE, Interpol, Shame) at Black Mountain Studios, forthcoming debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker is a concept record that tells the story of Larry, a barman in his mid-to-late 20s struggling to find his way amidst the social and economic uncertainties of modern Irish life.

With Confessions Of A Pub Talker, Scustin flip the stereotype of Irish drinking culture on its head. Rather than depicting the pub as a site of excess, they portray it as a communal refuge. “We wanted to push back against the cliché,” they say. “The pub isn’t about getting locked. It’s about love, grief, business ideas, confessions—it’s all there. And Larry is the guy who sees it all.”

The band have announced an extensive run of headline live dates for October and November. In addition Scustin will play SWN Festival and Live At Leeds.
