The critically acclaimed Galway post-punk band Slyrydes return with their long-awaited full-length release. Galway’s own Slyrydes have always been a band with something to say. Formed in 2013, their raw, unflinching brand of post-punk earned them critical acclaim for a string of singles exploring mental health, addiction, and the darker edges of modern life. Now, after years of personal growth and collective survival, Slyrydes are set to release their debut album, What Happens If You Get Happy, on 28 July on all streaming platforms, with a vinyl release to follow.
“From the beginning, we said we wanted to make important music, the kind that mattered to people,” says Eoin Reilly. “We really lived it. Now we are in a healthier place to put this music out and give it the platform it deserves”
Between 2018 and 2021, Slyrydes released a series of singles that resonated with fans and critics alike, garnering international airplay and praise for their raw honesty. But like many, the pandemic hit the band hard. It forced them apart , but it also gave them time to regroup, rebuild, and come back stronger. What Happens If You Get Happy is a 12-track album forged in that fire. Six of its tracks have never been heard before. It’s a record that asks big questions but doesn’t flinch from the answers.
“We’ve bled for this record — literally and figuratively.” Mark Raftery
“It’s been a long road, but maybe we needed that time apart to figure out who we really are. This album is our story.” Mark Comer
To celebrate the announcement Slyrydes have released lead single ‘Famous To Five Million’.
With plans to bring their explosive live show back on the road, Slyrydes are ready to make the statement they always promised.
